About me

I'm a quilter that loves to design using foundation paper piecing and applique. My first quilt was simple squares, but my second quilt was a self-designed queen sized quilt with a houndstooth pattern. I had a ton to learn at that point and made many mistakes, but absolutely loved the design process from start to finish. I started designing my own quilt patterns in earnest during the height of the pandemic as a creative escape, which opened a new world of owning a "creative business" alongside working full time at an aerospace company. I like to use a pencil and paper for sketching my ideas before transitioning to various computer programs to iterate on them.
The majority of my quilt patterns have either foundation paper piecing or applique, with my row of the month patterns including both. They are meant to facilitate an enjoyment of the long process of quilting. My current style is bold, geometric, and botanical patterns that evoke a distinctive design feeling. I am drawn to saturated solids that enhance the geometric aspects of my quilt designs, and I always seem to incorporate a teal and a yellow into my quilts. I love to look for inspiration anywhere and everywhere.
I live in Seattle, WA (USA) with my husband, Brian, and our two pets. Together we enjoy traveling, cooking, and making fancy cocktails.
My Workshop
This workshop is perfect for total beginners of foundation paper piecing! You will learn the whole process from start to finish in an approachable way, plus my favorite tips for success.
To start, I'll tell you about my recommended FPP tools, threads, and how to set up both your sewing machine and your workspace. Next, I will show you how to print your FPP templates to scale and how to cut out your fabric pieces. I will then teach you how to read an FPP template and how the process of foundation paper piecing actually works.
We will go over how to place your fabric to reduce the amount of times you need to seam rip, how to iron as you go, and other helpful tips (like the best way to seam rip because it will happen!)
By the end of this workshop you will have created your first foundation paper pieced block!
KIT AVAILABLE: Julia has a kit containing all the FPP notions you will need! Simply click here.
