About Me

"I am a quilter from Bethlehem, PA. I started quilting over 30 years ago, learning from the ladies in a church quilting circle. Precision patchwork and hand quilting were the values I learned. I turned my love of quilting into an annual retreat at Camp Hope, making quilts to support the work of that Moravian camping ministry.

Quilt Camp became a time and place to nurture the quilting skills of dozens of women. After many years of making quilts for family, friends and charity, I purchased a longarm quilting machine in 2016 and started my business, River Lawn Quilting. I quilt with hand-guided free motion. Starting that business led to a quilting business class with Shannon Brinkley. There, I learned that I could be certified to teach Shannon's curriculum of Color Confidence for Quilters. I started teaching classes by Zoom in 2020 and now offer classes on line and in person. I came up with a system for organizing fabric that I call Stash Savvy, which I also teach. I am developing a series of easy-to-sew patterns based on that system.

For this year's Tour de Fabric, I developed a program to help you ser more serenely!"

My Workshop

"Seven Steps to Sew Serenely"

Serenity is a state of calmness. It's peaceful. It's untroubled. For years, serenity was the opposite of what I felt while I was sewing.

I've always enjoyed the process of cutting fabric, sewing, creating something new, and sharing with other quilters. For a long time, however, I drove myself nuts. I wasn't organized. I hated following directions. And nothing I ever did was quite good enough.

OK, so I have a couple challenges: I have a chronic depression and I'm slightly dyslexic. All of that means I make many mistakes and am easily discouraged. Over the years, I have "discovered" a few practices that keep me in a good state of mind. Some are sewing hints that make you more efficient.

Some are techniques that keep you focused.

Some are meditative practices that keep your brain on the right wave length.

I hope these pointers will encourage you and give you more serenity when you sew.
