"I have always loved making crafts. Crafts are like puzzles by taking small pieces of things and putting them together to make something new. Quilting is like that. You take small pieces of fabric and put them together to make something new. I learned to sew as a child, but never participated in quilting. When I moved to Houston in 1979 my sister-in-law took me to the International Quilt Show and I fell in love. I knew I had to learn how to make a quilt. I took a class from my local fabric store, but they only offered a hand-stitching class on quilt making. That is the only hand-stitched quilt I have ever made. I had so many ideas I needed to be able to create faster. That visit to the quilt show started me on a journey that has lasted over 40 years. I am always trying a new technique because as with any art medium there are a variety of ways to create a unique and beautiful design. With a degree in education, teaching about quilting is a way to combine my love for learning and quilting. I look forward to sharing this love with you and can't wait to hear the story of your quilting journey."

"A Taste of Modern"

 If you have attended a quilt show or seen quilts on social media, you have probably seen some quilts that fall into the category of Modern Quilts. Maybe you thought they were interesting, but weren't sure if a Modern Quilt was your taste. This class could be just what you have been looking for to get a "taste" of modern without having to entertain a five-course dinner. This class will be an appetizer that you can try before you jump into the main course of Modern quilting. In this class you will get a little bit of history and have an opportunity to design and create a mini Modern quilt using some basic shapes. I will provide you with some tips, techniques, and a thumbnail sketching sheet that will make the task of designing and creating a Modern quilt easier. You will walk away with a design and a plan for how to create what you have designed as a mini, baby or lap size quilt. Join me to experience a "taste" of Modern Quilting.
