About Me

"I'm an artist and entrepreneur living in Oakland, California. Originally from the UK, I spent 15 years living and working in London before moving to Tokyo, Japan, and then settling in San Francisco in 2015. I've had the opportunity to teach and study quilting in all three countries, and I've been running virtual events since as early as 2013. In 2016, I became President of the SF Quilters Guild and served for two years. I still volunteer with them, as well as with the East Bay Heritage Quilters.

In 2024, I launched the QUILT2024 virtual events, where more than 15,000 attendees tuned in to watch workshops from teachers around the world. Since rebranding as "Quilt n Learn," I've continued running events, including the Tour de Fabric. I will be adding an event for creative businesses in the Autumn.

My background includes time at Art College in the UK, followed by a career that spanned physics, nonprofits, and big tech. Throughout that time, I kept creating and teaching‚ offering classes in sewing, embroidery, knitting, and crochet. In 2023, I took the leap to work for myself full-time, focusing on education, events, and teaching. I now use my teaching experience to help people learn and develop skills with quilting and other sewing techniques, fabric dyeing, UV Resin and DIY Skincare products and candles. Alongside that, I continue to create and exhibit quilts, teach workshops, and give lectures.

My Workshop

"Choosing Colors Without Color Theory"

You've been to talks about hues and tones but you still don't feel empowered to choose your own color palettes for your quilts. Why do others find it so easy when you can't seem to get it? This was me before I discovered this method!

Welcome to a different way of working! We'll start with a photo you've taken of a favorite niece, for example, or perhaps a picture of painting or quilt that you love. From there I will show you two quick and free ways to extract a color palette from that image. One on your phone using a free app and one on your computer using a free website. You'll then see how to translate that into the solid fabric range you like to use the most.

As well as the recording, you'll have access to not just the free color planner, but also and a PDF summary so you can keep all the links and instructions easily to hand.
